John Armleder, geboren 1948, lebt und arbeitet in Genf und New York. Armleder ist einer der wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Schweizer Künstler der Gegenwart. Mit seinem breit gefächerten Formen- und Stilvokabular macht er die Kunst selbst zum Thema und reflektiert mittels Formzitaten virtuos den Bedeutungswandel einstmals radikal-avantgardistischer Konzepte und Techniken im Zeitalter der Nach-Moderne. Durch sein unverwechselbares Schaffen hat er ein eindrucksvolles Universum aus divergenten und eindrucksvollen Werken auf den Weg gebracht, das sich zwischen Kunst, Design, Konzept, Geometrie, Pop und Trash bewegt. Seine Arbeiten waren in zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen zu sehen, so unter anderem auch auf der Biennale Venedig oder im Museum of Modern Art New York.

Born in 1948, John Armleder currently lives and works in Geneva and New York and is one of the most important and influential contemporary Swiss artists. Invoking a wide-ranging formal and stylistic vocabulary, he aims to present art itself as subject and, through formal quotations, masterfully reflect how the meanings of the techniques and theories of the radical historical avant-garde have been altered in the postmodern age. His unmistakably unique methods of practice have led to a body of work that is both impressive and manifold, standing at the juncture of art, design, conceptualism, geometry, pop and trash.

His work has been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions, notably at the Swiss Pavilion at the 1986 Venice Biennale and in a 2000 solo exhibition, Projects 72, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Most recently his work has been shown at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice (2011) and at MAMCO in Geneva (2006).
